Artist On The Rise: D.Tel

On The 6th presents to you D.Tel, An artist on the rise. Take a minute and get to know this up and coming artist.

In his own words:
What's good? My name is D.TeL from Tacoma, Wa, baby!

I grew up on all kinds of rap/ hip hop music with my brothers alot of westcoast like 2pac, Warren G., Snoop, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Nate Dogg, Daz & Kurupt, Xzibit, Westside Connection, etc.

I started listening to Eminem, the old Eminem by the way, his first and second album, haha, Hot Boys, Big Tymers, Bone Thugs, Biggie, Timbaland & Magoo, Ludacris, man the list goes on. I listened to Jazz with my mom since she's from Louisana. I also listened to Kenny G., Sade, Miles Davis.

When i was 12 i wrote my first song with a tape recorder and a stereo bumping in the backround and been on it ever since. Im 24 now so do the math on that one, about 12 years. I lived in Tacoma, Wa all my life up until my Grandma died in 2004, which led to me and my parents moving to Stockton, Ca.

Only regret i really have is not jumping on more opportunities that presented themselves, and making the most out of them. It's good though because it made me who i am today, somebody who can appreciate everything.

I'm working on a new mixtape called "D.TeL: This Time Around".

Working on some crazy material, I already got a few songs done.

My goals in 2012 would have to be to stay alive, stay humble and stay true to myself and keep doing me. Whatever I can do to elevate myself from the normal. I aim far above and beyond. Also, i would like to put out a few mixtapes as well.

Dante Dupuy is the real D.TeL 100%, everything i talk about in my music is real life relations, spontaneous music or something that you want made possible. Music that makes you want to throw a party out of nowhere, or just hitup all the homies and do something. But music that can put your mind at ease also, and just relax you and zoneout to, new feel-good music.

My greatest accomplishment so far in life would probably be getting played on the radio over 5 times. 3 of those songs actually got retired.

I love making music with a passion, putting crazy words to different melodies and beats, constantly trying to put together something that hasn't been heard before. Always trying to out do myself.

I like playing basketball, I have been doing that way before rapping and was pretty good to, still am. I love the Nba, Nfl. I love me some food too, yeah i'll get down in the kitchen.

What I like most about being in the business is being told by someone you know or may not know, that your music calms them, or got them through a hard time in their life. Or saying that my music inspired them in some way, or it sounds good and they like it, is a real good feeling. How someone can just pop in your cd, or download your song or just press play and hear your voice as if you were there, and they can feel you. Crazy.

My thought process is really being different. I like to have meaning behind everything i say, in every line, wasting no bars. I picture people listening in their cars and computers or even their phones. I don't want to be an artist that just makes hot hooks and beats and nobody cares about the lyrics. Yeah having a sick beat and hard hook is key, but i feel the lyrics in the verse fills the song in and defines it from the inside out. I don't second guess what I think about before i write it or make it official because usually the first thing that comes to mind is the best, for me anyways.

What inspires and motivates me are my parents. They been working hard and also married for 30 plus years and even through hard times they keep a great attitude about everything. My mistakes always inspire me to do better with anything i do, especially making music. I've grown to learn from my mistakes instead of repeating them. Can't forget the haters! Their a big inspiration to what I do and create, because without them. who do I have to prove wrong! With my own failures, I learn and grow and move past them without returning.

My life has changed by being more patient and focused when I need to be. At the snap of a finger, I can transform into all business, fully focused and zeroed in on something. I owe that greatly to being involved in music for so long. I just bring all the characteristics, style, motivation, techniques and fun into anything now. I feel like i can't waste any time now, and everyday im determined to get closer to my goals and objectives.

The media doesnt ever affect me in no way shape or form. If anything it'll just fuel the fire and or motivate me, mostly learning from it, instead of being negatively affected.

Advice I give to those pursuing a dream, is don't let anybody tell you what you can or can't do. Only you control your future and where your destinations are. Don't let anybody get you down or get in your head, you always have to stay solid and always ready to adapt to change. Don't ever just pursue your dreams just for the money, because that's when you lose your passion, love and creativity for your art. If it always comes from and starts from your heart then that's what your getting back out of it, and you wont never want to give up, even when you feel like you can't take it. Most importantly always be yourself, nobody likes fake people or people just trying to impress somebody to get noticed and fit in, that's some little kid stuff and eventually people will notice or you'll get caught slipping somehow.

I want to be remembered by how different a music artist I was, one that eventually paved his own lane, instead of following the fad that was in at the time. I want to be remembered by the lives I impacted and changed forever through my music and objectives as a person. I want to be remembered by my lyrics down to every word having meaning and filling in every blank. I want to be remembered as a humble being yet a beast in the music and entertainment industry, someone who changed the world and face of music forever, for years to come.

Im always looking for beats, collabs and venues to rock so producers, promoters, real mc's get at me!
